Raiders Hot!.....and Cold!Sunday, March 4 2018 - Batavia Invitational
Raider Track News
It's hard to believe but the Indoor season is quickly coming to an end! There's still time to improve and reach your PR's! The Varsity Conference Meet is a week from Friday. Are you ready?
Raider(s) Of The Meet - The Raider Of The Meet award will be given to the athlete(s) that through their performances, caught the attention of the Coaches. This week, the Coaches have selected Daziyah Arrington, Bella Hall, Katie King, Shayan Malik, & Nikki Newman as our Raiders Of The Meet. Congratulations!
The Batavia Invitational gives us an opportunity to run on a great, 200 Meter track against some of the best competition around. On Saturday, at times we took advantage to perform our best, at other times, we went through the motions. For some of our younger kids, being outside their comfort zone proved difficult. My expectations for the veteran girls is different. Some of you took advantage of the opportunity, (Savannah Williams - 55D, Katie King - 3200M, Daziayah Arrington - LJ, Nikki Newman - Shot, Lamya Pulliam - LJ, Cassidy Shirley - 800R, Shayan Malik, 1600R, Joslynn Hibbler - TJ) and some times you didn't. I get it that we can have off days. What I don't understand is lack of warm-up and even effort. Givning up before a race or event is unacceptable. Lack of preparation is unacceptable. I expect more from the Varsity Girls. As I told a few of the girls, even if we come in last in our event, that doesn't stop you from preforming your best. If you don't care, why are you here? On the flip side, there were some encouraging signs. From my perspective, I'd like to see some consistency.
Coach Crissey - Saturday was a good day for the throwers. After a great week practice and lifting, the throwers competing at the Batavia meet showed how the effort and execution can lead to good things. CeCe Jackson tossed the shot today 33-1. She was consistent with marks over 30-feet. Taylor Pickens and Adadeyo Fatuga tossed 25-1 and 23-01, respectively. Jessica Velasquez continues to be consistent with her tosses. Today she threw 24-4. Kaya Cloutier had a big day. She set a new PR by using the spin technique. Her mark was 27-1. Nikki Newman set a new PR with a huge mark of 31-0.5. She attacked the day for sure.
Coach Bledsoe - This Saturday at Batavia the Raider Track team saw a lot of impressive performances. Daziyah Arrington is close to breaking 15' in the long jump, and Lamya Pulliam scored a personal best at 14'02". Distance runners Katie King and Ellie Stewart braved the 16 lap 3200 meter run, and finished with times that show how hard they have been working all season. Mikayla Jacoby tied her PR mile time and Cassidy Shirley ran her best 800 yet. With a few weeks left in the indoor season, both the Long/Triple Jumpers and Distance team are setting themselves up for success in the outdoor season. Keep up the hard work!
Coach Tacchi - The sprinters/jumpers/hurdlers accounted for 12 PR's, 7 were career bests! It was really great to see Daziayah Arrington begin knocking some of the rust off with an Indoor Career Best in the Long Jump. Lamya Pulliam also ripped a career best to join Daziayah in the LJ. Savannah Williams knocked 3 tenths off her previous 55 time to grab a place. Other PR moments included Isabell Bergman, Hailey Bjarnson, Chris Nobles, Emma Taylor, and Josylnn Hibber. As far as the varsity relays, we need more effort. We are 3 seconds behind where we were last year in the 4X2 and 16 seconds behind in the 4X4. Some of the names are the same and some are different. I'm not sure there's much different in talent. Sometimes it comes down to desire and a want to attitude. It's not too late to develop that but it's getting late. I have to give a shout out to Bella Hall. Having never run the 400 before, Bella ran an opening split of 32 sec which is about how fast she can run. I give her credit for having the courage to go out hard! For that, Bella is one of my Raiders Of The Meet.
Team Reminder - Bring those warm clothes this week! JV Home Meet on Wednesday!
