A Shadow of Ourselves      Fall Harvest Classic   September 3rd, 2022

Henry Ford once said, “Whether you think you can, or think you can’t, you’re probably right!”

To me, this quote emphasizes how much attitude determines the level of success one achieves.  As an athlete, the voice in your head really can have an impact on your performance. I heard many of your voices expressing concern before you ran! I encourage you to take a moment, take a deep breath and reframe your thoughts.  I believe we have 2 voices.  The negative voice is much louder.  But if you listen carefully, the quiet, much more optimistic voice, can have a much more positive impact on you!  If it’s true what the say that “attitude is contagious,” then the attitude you portray can also affect your teammates.  What is it that you portray?

As the title of this newsletter reads, we were a “shadow of ourselves” at the Fall Harvest classic.  Due to injury, we are not a complete team.  We can only look forward to someday having everyone healthy.    On a warm and sunny day, 4 girls ran season’s bests when we compare 3 mile times to last week.  Congratulations to Maggie Riley, Ava Benes, Lexi Izaguirre, and Ashleyn Andres for running a season PR!  Ava also ran a Meet PR!  Well done!  Lexi finished in the Top 10 at the JV level to be the Raider’s lone medalist!  Next week we get a chance to run on the State Course at Detweiller Park in Peoria.  To those parents and athletes who have never been at this meet, it’s really quite a spectacle, and worth the drive to watch it!  Imagine several hundred athletes on the line at the start of the race!  To say it’s exciting is an understatement!
